New Rules From July 1: What Changes for LPG, Taxes, Railways & More
First, regarding LPG and PNG connections: coaching centers that have both connections are required to complete the KYC process. Failure to complete the KYC within the stipulated timeframe could lead to disruptions in gas services. However, the government may still decide to extend the deadline. As they do every month, oil companies will review LPG cylinder prices on July 1. Domestic gas prices are expected to see some relief following a drop in crude oil prices in the international market and easing tensions in the Middle East. However, the final decision will only be known after the oil companies’ monthly review.
There is good news for Aadhaar cardholders as well. A facility to update email addresses via the Aadhaar app may soon be launched, eliminating the need for people to pay various charges as they did previously. This will make the process much easier than before. The Railways may further tighten rules regarding ticketless travel and discipline. Under the proposed system, the fine for traveling without a ticket could be increased. Therefore, be sure to check the latest Railway guidelines before traveling.
This month is also significant for taxpayers regarding the filing of returns. The deadline for filing ITR-1 and ITR-2 for the financial year 2025-26 has been set for July 31, 2026. Late fees and other penalties do not apply if returns are filed on time. Those planning to apply for a passport may also have to bear additional costs. Passport fees both for the standard category and others have been revised following the implementation of the Ministry of External Affairs’ commercial fee structure. Be sure to check the details of the new fees before applying.
